Rkatsiteli Koncho&Co
Every country has a grape that carried everything on its shoulders. In Georgia, for white wine, that grape is Rkatsiteli.
It is one of the oldest cultivated grape varieties on earth — grown in Georgia for thousands of years. During the Soviet period, when winemaking became industrial and yields mattered more than character, Rkatsiteli thrived. It was not fussy. It adapted. It produced reliably in conditions that would have broken other varieties. While many ancient Georgian grapes were lost to that era, Rkatsiteli survived and spread — becoming the most widely planted white variety in the country.
Today it is having a different moment. The same grape that carried Soviet-era viticulture is now being made with care, in smaller quantities, with attention to what it actually tastes like.
And what it tastes like is this: gentle, crisp, refreshing. A clean mineral backbone. Subtle fruit — green apple, a touch of citrus. Dry and honest. The kind of white wine that works with almost any food and needs no explanation.
The king of Georgian whites. Earned over centuries, not chosen.
