Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri Koncho&Co
Some grapes almost did not make it.
Mtsvivani Kakhuri is an ancient Georgian variety that came close to disappearing entirely. Soviet industrialization replaced indigenous grapes with high-yield varieties. Wars interrupted everything else. By the time Georgia began its winemaking renaissance, Mtsvivani Kakhuri was barely there. Koncho and Co brought it back. Today it is one of the rarest wines you can find outside Georgia. In California, you will not find it anywhere else.
The wine earned 92 points from Decanter. For a grape that almost ceased to exist, that is a remarkable thing to say.
Made in the traditional qvevri method with extended skin contact, it sits in that soft amber zone between a white wine and a classical Georgian amber. Fruity, silky, concentrated. Dried fig and ripe yellow fruit. A finish that stays with you long after the glass is empty. More approachable than most qvevri wines, less demanding than classical Georgian amber. The tannins are gentle. The fruit is generous.
For wine lovers who want something genuinely rare on their table.
